League Champions!

The MCFL concluded it's regular season yesterday and we were very happy to see Grace's Target Oman team as U-10 league champions!  With an 11-1-2 (W/draw/loss) record for a total 34 points, Target Oman topped the table 3 points ahead of second place Vale.

Perhaps most impressive, Target Oman scored 28 goals and while only giving up 3 which was the lowest goals against total for any team at any level in the league.  Next week, Grace's team will go for the MCFL double as they seek to top the 3 other teams in Pool A of the MCFL year end tournament.  We've been told that things get pretty crazy at tourney time with most of the 10 minute mini games ending up being decided by PKs.

But, as those of you who know and follow football (soccer) know, league champion is the pinnacle.  This is a bit different from the playoff/tournament obsessed U.S.

Nick's team, OOSC, finished a very respectable third in MCFL U-8 group.  Had either of the first two teams decided to fairly play all of their players the same amount of time and in a variety of positions on the field, OOSC would have certainly been in contention for the title.  But, unfortunately and sadly, the win at all costs attitude is something that you find everywhere.

We're grateful that Nick's coach took the high road and gave fair playing time letting each player play every position on the field.  They'll have fun playing in Pool A of their group in next week's tournament.  And maybe they'll come out on top in the tourney.
